The donation platform Helpkarma has provided huge sums of salary, as well as loans to relatives, according to an investigation by Maria Tsancarova on BTV.

This is all regulated, the question is how moral it is when it comes to donor money, says the journalist.

According to data from the foundation that makes the platform, the average salary in 2018 was BGN 3,900, in 2019 BGN 4,824 and in 2020 BGN 1,213.

However, according to Tsantsarova, technical director Slavcho Slavchov received more than BGN 80,000 in December 2019. Initially he had a salary of more than BGN 20,000, in another period, more than BGN 50,000. In total, over two years it received more than BGN 775,000.

At the same time, it obtained a loan of BGN 51,000. According to him, the money in front of the camera was to buy an apartment. Do not buy due to the complicated situation of the coronavirus.

“Salaries are high because, in principle, they are even higher in the information technology sector,” the owner and founder of the foundation, Konstantin Krastev, explained to the camera.

He explains that no loans are given to outsiders and after the conversation with BTV he himself returns the loan to Slavchov, sending a document about it to television.

The deduction of a percentage of donations is registered in the statutes of the foundation, whose activity began in 2017. At the beginning this percentage was 6.5, now it is 5%. The deductions are for the expenses of the foundation in the performance of its activity.

Tsancarova’s research shows that BGN 21,000,000 has been collected so far from donations, of which BGN 13,535,135 corresponds to amounts paid to donors. There is also an amount of BGN 5,190,370, which is in the foundation’s bank account, and the data is as of October 22.

However, BTV shows that 2,274,495 BGN remain, and some of them are known to support the activities of the foundation. According to their public salary reports, 7.8% of their expenses were given, and in 2019 – 9%.

Helpkarma is the platform that raised more than BGN 640,000 in the battle against the coronavirus. Through it, the amount was raised for the purchase of 5 respirators for the Medical Academy at the beginning of the pandemic in March.
