50th Jubilee Congress: reordering instead of reconciliation
We’re party leadership without ideological basis, the plenary session became a rubber stamp, concluded the head of the PSE
After the night of the long corrals, only one was legally chosen: Krum Zarkov, the new red pet.
Socialists are writing a new program, it will go through a referendum
SINCEErgey Stanishev, Velislava Dareva, Georgi Pirinski, Yuri Aslanov – these are just a few of the iconic BSP names that the BSP sent into political retirement. And he replaced them with people loyal to the leader Cornelia Ninova.
This happened with the vote for a new composition of the National Council by the delegates of the party’s 50th Jubilee Congress, which took place in Pavilion 1 of the National Palace of Culture over the weekend. For the first time, the highest forum did not elect a leader, after Ninova was reelected on September 12 by direct vote of all Socialists.
Thus, the main intrigue of the congress was for the new composition of the National Council. 692 fought for 113 seats, and the results became clear after a long night of voting and an even longer vote recount Sunday morning.
The BSP is a leading party that does not have a clear and solid ideological base, and the National Council is becoming a rubber stamp, PSE President Sergei Stanishev commented after the meeting. And he explained that it would be much more comfortable for him not to be a member of the plenary, because he would be a lonely voice in this composition, and all the people with critical thinking would leave.
Outside the plenary, other bright red names remain such as Angel Naidenov, Atanas Merdjanov, Valeri Zhablyanov, Georgi Bozhinov, Dimitar Dabov, Katya Nikolova, Krassimir Yankov and others. Former leader Mihail Mikov resigned on Saturday. You can be a socialist without being a member of the National Council, he explained to the media.
However, the previous plenary session includes former Ninova deputy Kiril Dobrev, who was his main competitor in the leadership vote. As well as the other current deputy. of Ninova – Denitsa Zlateva.
I will be a regular member of the National Council and will monitor the policy that is being followed, Kiril Dobrev announced. He did not want to be on the Executive Board again.
We have a new generation of young and enthusiastic politicians who will lead the party forward, Dobrev said of the new plenary session. But he warned his members that they must be wise, have character and defend their theses, not just voting machines. These things that unite the new National Council are much more than those that divide it, Dobrev said when asked if the internal opposition would be listened to.
Georgi Gergov became a member of the plenary as a delegated representative of the Plovdiv Socialists. He himself did not come to the congress because he is in quarantine. The reason –
his wife
Gergov’s mother-in-law
are with COVID-19
902 of the 976 Congress delegates participated in the vote. To be elected, a candidate for the National Assembly must have received 452 votes, more than half of the delegates.
As the only legitimately elected was Krum Zarkov with 487 votes, Congress decided to fill the National Council by consensus. Therefore, Zarkov became the favorite of the congress. Until now, such was invariably Stefan Danailov, and after him usually stood Dora Yankova, who now legitimately entered as the leader of the Union of Socialist Women.
The new National Council also includes other celebrities such as Yanaki Stoilov (second after Zarkov with 451 votes), Georgi Svilenski (third with 450 votes), Rumen Gechev, Alexander Simov, Christian Vigenin, Borislav Gutsanov, Atanas Zafirov, Vyara Emilova, Kostadin Paskalev. , Boris Tsvetkov, Radoslav Gaidarski, Rumen Ovcharov, Asen Gagauzov, Brigo Asparuhov, the mayors of Troyan, Pernik and Razgrad Donka Mihailova, Stanislav Vladimirov and Dencho Boyadzhiev, Dragomir Stoynev, the leader of the Socialists of Sofia, Anne Kaloyan Pargov. Among the new faces is rally champion Krum Donchev.
The youth had a separate list: 114 people fought for a quota of 37 seats. The daughter of the late deputy Dimcho Mihalevski – Petya took first place. From this list

In addition to MEP Tsvetelina Penkova, whose father, Marin Penkov, is also a member of the National Assembly. Georgi Pirinski’s daughter, Ana, stayed below the line as a reserve, but left the second round and did not enter. The new red plenary session will be made up of 187 people. 32 of its members are delegated representatives of the regional structures. In addition to the women’s leader, those of the youth and veterans are legitimately included.
In fact, the occupation of the National Council was the great battle of this congress, because it marked the end of Cornelia Ninova’s battle with the internal opposition. The leader managed to assert herself and bring in more of her own people, thus providing support and comfort in imposing positions. The National Council is the body that makes important decisions in the BSP in the period between Congress meetings and determines the political activity of the party. It approves the leaders of lists for the parliamentary elections, the candidates for president and vice president and all other nominations that the socialist party makes for state offices. The plenary also decides to participate in the executive power.
Let’s go to the most important thing ahead:
course to
parliamentary
elections and victory,
gave the leader
Cornelia Ninova, who reported in her report on Saturday that the BSP is consolidated. We have to show that in addition to being able to change ourselves, we will also change Bulgaria, he said. The BSP will have a new program, it became clear after Congress decided to instruct the new composition of the National Council to organize a discussion on a new program to be adopted after a referendum.
The head of the Red CEC took
procedural “party court”
The head of the CEC Network, which organizes the direct election of a leader, Emil Voynov, is the new chairman of the All-Party Control Commission in the BSP, better known as the “party court”. This was decided by the Red Congress after a triple vote.
16 were nominated for the position, and after the secret ballot on Saturday night, the current head of the commission Valya Bogdanova received 386 votes and Voinov, 374 votes.
The two went to the second round on Sunday, but for the first time it was held openly because it was announced that the members of the polling stations had left and there was no way to form new ones.
During the voting in the hall, Voinov was supported by 379 delegates and Bogdanova by 178.
The leader of the Sofia Socialists, Kaloyan Pargov, demanded a quorum check and a new vote. There is a quorum, as can be seen from the results of the two candidates, said meeting chair Yanaki Stoilov. And after re-election, Voinov was again elected head of the control commission with 384 votes against Bogdanova’s 133.
In fact, Voinov was the only person Ninova thanked by name in her report to congress. She praised him for the perfect organization of the first direct election in the BSP.
While Valya Bogdanova delivered perhaps the sharpest speech to Congress. Before seeking people’s trust, let’s try to win back each other, he told delegates. And she criticized the leadership for not respecting the statute, disrespecting the opposition’s attempts to call a meeting of the National Council, as well as making decisions with parliamentary tricks such as the “decreasing” quorum.
