The CSKA coach Bruno Akrapovič answered some questions about TOPSPORT after the great 3: 1 victory over Roma in the Europa League group stage. The Bosnian specialist is happy that his favorite 3-5-2 scheme is already working. He invited CSKA legend and club co-owner Hristo Stoichkov to come to the stadium for upcoming “Army” matches.
Is the victory over Roma the biggest of your career?
– Now, looking at how big the opponent is, what is his name. You have very important victories in the Bulgarian championship and in the Cup with Lokomotiv. It was very important to me. But this victory over Roma is one of the sweets. I’m very happy. But I am happier for our fans. Who could not be present in the stands, but surely saw it on television and supported us. I hope to see you again soon at our matches.
Legend Hristo Stoichkov always inspires the team with a Facebook post before a game. But have you heard from yourself and the players? You probably know that you are also a co-owner of CSKA.
– Yes, I know the situation at the club. You haven’t heard from me yet. I will be happy to hear from you. We invite you to our next matches, to come, to meet those players with whom you do not know personally yet. It would be good.
The 3-5-2 scheme may not be bad for CSKA at all. It starts to pay off.
“That’s right, and it had to happen.” I kept repeating that CSKA has quality midfielders and wings. I can rotate and duplicate in any position. Maziku and Kerry on the left flank, Enrique, Thibaut Villon and against Roma Yomov on the right. And you can play there, no problem. We just have to keep going in that direction. Players want to get even more used to the scheme.
After good games in Europe, offers to CSKA’s top players will not be late. Will you keep the core of the team preserved during winter break?
– We will discuss this with the club directors. It’s not just my question. I work with what I have. I will certainly say my wish for the future, but these issues must be discussed at a high level. We will decide what to do. Something will be done that is good for the team, for the club. CSKA will not be without quality players.
Have you identified new additions?
– I look a lot, I am interested in how we can raise the level of the team. Even more so after a match like that of Roma. Let’s see which player we need to achieve even more. To be even safer and better. I have good players and I am calm about the future of the team. But you always have to think of something new and better. If possible.
The fans enjoy more the victories in Europe and against Levski. Now CSKA enters the role of favorites in the Eternal Derby. The fans expect not only victory but also defeat. Does this weigh on you and the team or does it motivate you even more?
– Levski is not an issue at all at the moment. We only think about the game on Sunday, against Botev (Vratsa). I will not allow my players to think now about the derby with Levski, because it is professional to think only about the next game. But my goal is to win the two remaining games before the end of the year.
