Unlike before, this time Elena Dineva was brought to court for judicial arrest.

Elena Dineva, the wife of gambling boss Vasil Bozhkov, has asked to be released from custody for a monetary guarantee or other restrictive measure. She appeared in person in a special court last week despite the risk of COVID-19.

The guards escorted her from the investigative arrest of GM Dimitrov to the special court, which sat for several hours on request but was denied release, she learned “24 hours.”

The same fate happened to former head of the Gaming Commission Ognemir Mitev, and he, like Dineva, remains in custody until at least Thursday. They then have the right to appeal the denial of liberty to the Specialized Court of Appeals.

Dineva’s appearance in the hallway was at her request. There was also a Skype connection, but it was not used.

Elena Dineva and Ognemir Mitev are accused of participating in a criminal group led by Vasil Bozhkov. The special court ruled that there is no danger of the two escaping, but the danger of their freedom to commit a crime has not been removed.

In reaching its decision, the court relied on the testimony of businessman Tsvetomir Naydenov. From them it became clear that Dineva regularly participated in business meetings that were held every Tuesday with Eurofootball managers and associates. She was completely familiar with the affairs of her husband, who is wanted on 11 counts.

In February this year, a judge released Elena Dineva on bail of BGN 1.5 million, but a week later she was overturned due to the danger of freedom to influence witnesses.

Mitev was also on the move to be released from custody on a serious bond, but that did not happen. At the last hearing in the special court, he was represented by three lawyers who replaced his official defense attorney.

In addition to being part of Bozhkov’s group, Mitev is also charged with a criminal offense involving an unexpired license.
According to the prosecutor’s office, as head of the Gambling Commission, Mitev did not exercise sufficient control over the collection of a state fee from Bozhkov companies, which hurt the state treasury.
