Crisis Botev (Plovdiv) achieved an important 2-1 victory over Levski and took only the second success since the start of the season. The yellows and blacks beat Sofia’s guests at their Komatevo base, and Atanas Iliev became the team’s hero, scoring both goals.
“Botev” stopped the series of “Levski”, and before this game the Blues had three consecutive victories. Before this match, the yellows and blacks had won only in the first round of the derby with their city rival Lokomotiv.
Iliev scored twice in the 14th and 20th minutes in similar situations. Borislav Tsonev scored the “Levski” goal from a penalty in the 27th minute.
The game featured dynamic football, especially before half-time, as well as positions in front of both gates. In the second half, the battle prevailed. Before the match, “Botev” was in a difficult situation, during the week he parted with three main players: Lachezar Baltanov, Antonio Vutov and Ivan Bandalovski.
The victory leaves Botev in eleventh place in the table with eight points. “Levski” is sixth with 10 points, after having three wins and three losses in his previous seven games.
“Botev” started the game actively and tried to pressure the guests, and even before 50 seconds had elapsed, the hosts created a situation. The good game of the yellows and blacks continued, while “Levski” looked stunned, and in the first 10 minutes it was difficult to hold the ball permanently.
Despite the good start of the hosts, there was also a situation in front of their door. After a shot from Paulinho, the ball hit Victor Genev’s hand, but referee Georgi Dimitrov ruled that there was no penalty.
In the 14th minute, the defense in blue could not find its way to Atanas Iliev. The forward took the ball and with a solid shot with his left foot scored over Nikolay Mihailov – 1: 0.
Only six minutes later, the situation was repeated. Iliev was taken off at full speed, “Levski” defender Alex Petkov missed him and the forward did not make a mistake, again after a kick with his left foot.
After the strong start of the hosts, “Levski” managed to become more active. The guests looked more boldly ahead and in the 27th minute Borislav Tsonev won a penalty. The victim stood behind the ball and scored with a strong blow – 2: 1.
After the break, “Levski” looked for change, and coach Georgi Todorov released the offensive players. Although “Botev” lost its freshness, the hosts did not allow great problems in front of their door and kept their advantage.
