- The former ambassador to Paris and former adviser to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov Angel Cholakov is the next Bulgarian ambassador to Turkey to replace former Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky.

He is a foreign policy adviser for Borissov’s first term until March 2013. After that date, he served as ambassador to Italy for several months, joining a group of new ambassadors, most of whom replaced former agents of the State Security. In August, he was succeeded by Marin Raykov, after serving as acting prime minister. Since then, Cholakov has been ambassador to France and Monaco, and since 2016 he has also been the permanent representative of Bulgaria to UNESCO. He speaks English, French, Russian, Swedish, Italian and German.
Nikolai Milkov, who served as ambassador to Romania and Canada and consul general in New York from 2004 to 2005, replaces Cholakov in France.
Deputy Minister becomes Ambassador to Serbia
Former Deputy Foreign Minister Petko Doikov will serve as Bulgaria’s ambassador to Serbia.
The decision of the Council of Ministers on the subject affirms that although it considers European integration as a strategic objective and that it has the support of Bulgaria, “it continues to be a militarily neutral country, developing ever closer relations with Russia and China.”
