Until the end of March, Europe will not be able to open up to a normal way of life. A third wave of coronavirus is expected in the spring, and with it, tightening of restrictions. This forecast was made by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov after his participation in the Brussels European Council, during which the leaders reached agreements on the next budget. He said the measures across the EU were expected to hold through the Christmas holidays, except in Ireland, where pubs would open because their prime minister had promised to.
Europe will emerge from the economic crisis in August-October next year. This can be done on the condition that herd immunity exists and can only be achieved with a vaccine, Borissov added.
Until March, forget it!
“There is no talk of opening Europe until the end of March. Furthermore, a third wave and very severe restrictions are then expected.“Said Borissov. He explained that the situation in Brussels at the moment was as follows: at night at 10 pm and no one was on the streets. Those who work in the European institutions needed a special pass to move.”
After one week and five days, the lockdown in Bulgaria has been successful, Borissov added. However, they do not show that there should be optimism that the pandemic in our country is over.
“Christmas and New Year for the EU should be in the closest family circle without mass gatheringsBorisov said.
His position has apparently changed since he landed in Brussels. Just a few days ago in our country, he insisted that kindergartens and kindergartens open on December 14, and that all businesses start operating on December 21. Shortly after, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov said it was too early to take such steps. On Friday, the mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, announced that the kindergartens would not open from Monday.
Get out of the crisis – next fall
The only country in the world that is forecasting economic growth is China, Borissov added. At the time, the EU and the US were talking about a 10-15% drop in GDP. He explained that he spoke separately with all the leaders of the Union, and listened to the forecast of the head of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde.
“From what I hear from colleagues and the President of the ECB, the predictions that are being made are that a way out of the crisis can be expected in August-October next year. And this provided that 70% of the EU population is vaccinated“, he said.
In Bulgaria, measures must be controlled flexibly and carefully and pressure on hospitals must be controlled.
“Without a doubt, the good news is that every day more than 3,000 people are cured and there are already days in which more are cured than infected, so that is optimism, but you have to be very moderate.“he said.
