Borissov points out that we firmly adhere to the recommendations of the Venice Commission, so “we will fully implement everything that we have made as a commitment in the follow-up of Bulgaria and all EU countries.”
Borissov thanked the head of the Council Charles Michel and all the colleagues who gave the opportunity to see each other live again. According to him, there are important processes underway in the world, in Europe itself and the EU must open up properly.
He also expressed his satisfaction that tomorrow the Council’s agenda included the so-called Strategic Autonomy.

The Prime Minister points out that it must be known that our geostrategic position in Bulgaria is such that we are extremely dependent on the conflicts that surround us.
According to Borissov, the relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are very important for this region and that is why we insist on an immediate ceasefire, because we maintain friendly relations with both countries, which in turn are important for our trade.
“We hope that the fire will stop immediately and that he will sit at the negotiating table and solve the problem in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Borissov said.

BLIC recalls that meanwhile the Cabinet press service announced that Borissov has already arrived in Brussels to attend the council. They said that on the first day of the discussions, the heads of state and government would discuss foreign relations, in particular those they have with Turkey, as well as the situation in the eastern Mediterranean.
The leaders are also expected to discuss relations with China, the situation in Belarus and the case of the poisoning of Alexei Navalny.
On the second day, European leaders will focus on ways to deepen and strengthen the single market, develop a more ambitious industrial policy and accelerate digital transformation. The aim is to increase the competitiveness of EU industrial sectors worldwide and increase their autonomy, accelerate the digital transition and achieve a return to a fully functioning single market as soon as possible.
In July, the European Council agreed on an unprecedented recovery package to address the effects of COVID-19 on the economies and societies of the EU Member States. The two pillars of this recovery, the environmental transition and the digital transformation, combined with a strong single market, will promote new forms of growth and increase the resilience of the EU.
