Confrontation and lack of understanding are detrimental to our society. We have months of recovery ahead of us and then a difficult fight for greater prosperity for Bulgaria. This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in a speech on the occasion of the 143rd anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria:
Dear compatriots,
Congratulations on the occasion of the Bulgarian National Holiday on March 3. On this solemn day today, which marks the 143rd anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria, we celebrate the restoration of Bulgarian statehood and deeply adore the heroic sacrifice of all those who gave their lives for the freedom of the Fatherland. We also proudly remember those revivalists, revolutionaries and educators who, with faith and self-denial, guided the Bulgarian people in their spiritual and political growth towards a strong and prosperous nation. The indomitable and combative spirit of our ancestors continues to live deep within each one of us and is our infallible compass for the prosperity of the country.
Today, the Bulgarian national spirit is again concerned that Bulgaria is undergoing a severe test. The enormous stress that the pandemic brought took away the peace from our society and slowed the upward development of the country. We fight to preserve health, education, employment, livelihoods. Society has shown common sense and understanding to those at the forefront. The measures worked because more people accepted and believed in them. Trust and joint efforts are the key to restoring normalcy in everyday life and restoring the state. This can be achieved on the closest possible horizon, if we are united.
It would be a mistake if our goal were simply to get our lives back before the pandemic, because I believe that we can live even better. Over the past year, we have withstood the ordeal of stress the entire world has been subjected to. Now, with joint efforts, we can get back on our feet and continue the democratic development of the country so that it works even better in the interests of all Bulgarian citizens. The only obstacle is confrontation and lack of understanding, which are harmful to our society; we must avoid them at all costs and not allow their incarnations to shake us.
We have months of recovery ahead of us and then a difficult fight for greater prosperity for Bulgaria and the Bulgarian citizens. I am sure that we will be together in this great cause and with a lot of work we will prove once again that the Bulgarians of today are worthy heirs of the alliance of our ancestors.
Happy national holiday!
