“Any Bulgarian citizen who wishes will have the opportunity to be immunized against the coronavirus as soon as possible, as soon as the European Medicines Agency approves and registers effective, reliable and safe vaccines against COVID-19.” This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during the regular government meeting, which was held by videoconference.

To guarantee Bulgarians access to approved vaccines, as well as to the quantities our country needs, the government today allocated BGN 6,374,930 as additional funding to supplement the budget of the EU Emergency Assistance Instrument. It is through this mechanism that Bulgaria will have the necessary number of immunizations in the conditions of a pandemic.

“The vaccination will be carried out completely free of charge and voluntary, and there is already availability for placement,” stressed Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

The Council of Ministers also approved additional expenditures in the 2020 budget of the Ministry of Health in the amount of up to BGN 14,000,000. They are destined to the purchase of another 17,280 vials of remdesivir. Currently around 2000 vials are available. “Our doctors use the drug in the most serious stages of the disease, so we decided to buy another 17,280 to be able to give in hospitals to all the needy patients in the country,” said Prime Minister Borissov. He emphasized that in combination with other medications, remdesivir saves the lives of seriously ill people with COVID-19.

During the Council of Ministers meeting, Prime Minister Borissov added that the government takes measures every day to ensure that Bulgarian doctors have all the necessary medicines, for which world experience shows that they help patients with the severe new virus. .
