BMA: GPs will issue referrals for PCR test for at least five symptoms | News from Bulgaria and the world

GPs must refer a PCR test for at least five COVID-19 symptoms in a patient. This is proposed by the National Health Insurance Fund for a draft contract for the amendment of the National Framework Agreement 2020-2022, sent to the Bulgarian Medical Union.

A referral for testing may be possible if the patient has at least five of the symptoms that have recently appeared: fever; cough – mostly dry; severe fatigue; loss of taste and / or smell; shortness of breath or shortness of breath; myalgia; oxygen saturation less than 92% (or less than 88% for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

The GP can send an electronic referral to the NHIF, and the system will generate a unique referral code. Once the GP provides the unique code to the patient, the patient must present it to a laboratory that is contracted with the NHIF and perform a PCR test.

The proposal is published on the BMA website.
