Bio-producers put pressure on Bulgarian production chains

We Bulgarian bio-producers support the idea of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests and the Government to support native producers of agricultural products and food by providing access to Bulgarian production for their consumers in supermarket chains. This is stated in an opinion of the Bulgarian Association for Bioproducts, received at BTA.

The proposed decree of the Council of Ministers does not impose any restriction on any supplier to supply chains with the supply of quality and affordable food and present it on the shelves of the chains. The project simply wants a guaranteed place and access for local producers from different regions to local branches and stores of these chains, something that has long been a reality throughout Europe, according to opinion.

Over the years, we have repeatedly raised the issue of our extremely difficult access to the shelves of large chain stores in Bulgaria. Unbearable conditions for us in terms of quantity of products produced, the centralized loading requirement of a warehouse for the whole of Bulgaria (which, on the one hand, increases the cost of production and makes it difficult for producers, on the other, affects the quality of the fruits and fresh vegetables), the pressure on prices and promotions are unprecedented and nowhere with our counterparts in other European countries, the opinion says.

The result, according to the association, is that 95 percent of Bulgarian bioproducts are exported, and the recently separated shelves of the bioproduct store chains are filled with imported products at extremely high prices.

At this critical moment in the country, we believe that it is extremely important that the state, as well as Bulgarian consumers, put pressure on supermarket chains to give people access to fresh, delicious, healthy and traditional Bulgarian food, including organic products. . And this is not a pressure on the market mechanisms, but a pressure in the direction of showing solidarity, in the direction of preserving and saving the livelihood of the Bulgarian producers of agricultural products and food, who are also their clients, according to the opinion .

Retail chains offer to separate farmers markets with Bulgarian manufacturers of parking lots. The proposal was joined by the Modern Trade Association and representatives of the commercial chain. This happened during a video conference with the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Desislava Taneva, started by the Modern Commerce Association, the ministry said.

Private operators can make this short-term commitment anywhere they have parking by providing an area for native producers to offer their products. The deadline to implement these markets must be linked to the state of emergency in the country.

“We will not give up on our demand for local Bulgarian production to be present in retail chains. The actions of the ministry aim to support Bulgarian production, small local producers and maintain their livelihood,” Minister Taneva said. Bulgarian local produce is fresher, fresher and more familiar, it is part of the local way of life and culture. Consumers must have the right to access local production, and they decide what they prefer. Taneva commented that the proposal by the retail chains would be included in the MAFG proposals and would be sent to branch organizations in the agricultural sector for their opinion. It will be delivered until Friday, when the project proposal to support local production is finalized.

At the request of the Modern Trade Association, a working group was established today between MAFG and retail chains. Its president is the director of the Directorate of Agri-Food Policy, the ministry said.
