Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, a philanthropist, said he was surprised by the scale of the “crazy” and “evil” conspiracy theories that spread about him on social media during the COVID-19 pandemic, but said today you would like to find discover what is behind them.
In an interview with Reuters, Gates said that millions of social media posts with “crazy conspiracy theories” about him and America’s leading infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci had likely found supporters due to the combination of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic and the rise of social media.
“No one could have predicted that Dr. Fauci and I would occupy such an important place in these really vicious theories,” Gates said, adding: “I’m very surprised by this. I hope it happens.”
Some of the conspiracy theories include claims that Fauci and Gates created the pandemic to try to control people, that they wanted to profit from the spread of COVID-19, and use vaccines to implant chips in the population.
“Do people really believe in such things?” Gates was asked in an interview quoted by BTA.
He praised Fauci and Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, for being “smart” and “wonderful people” and said he looked forward to seeing how they could work effectively with the new Joe Biden administration.
Gates expressed concern that poor countries received coronavirus vaccines with a 6-8 month delay, saying that all politicians are currently under pressure to provide the best for their country in a pandemic.
