Starting tomorrow, Austria will strengthen border controls with all neighboring countries. This afternoon, Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer spoke by phone with his German counterpart Horst Seehofer on the issue, and talks are planned with all his colleagues from other countries bordering Austria, local media reported.
Travel should be kept to a minimum, Nehamer said in a statement. “Because there are very few exceptions in which the trip is urgent,” said the interior minister.

While the borders with Slovenia and Hungary have been under constant border control since the 2015 refugee crisis, the borders with the Czech Republic and Slovakia have only been controlled for a month due to the large number of newly infected people. According to the Interior Ministry, border control will be carried out in cooperation with the police of neighboring countries.

The 10-day quarantine is mandatory, which can be interrupted from the fifth day in the event of a new negative coronatest. Another novelty is the rule that those who come to work every day must register electronically and submit a negative coronatest.
