Austria has entered a second wave of infections with the new coronavirus, Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said according to AFP. From Friday to Saturday, the country of 9 million people registered about 870 new infections, more than half of which are in Vienna. A total of 33,000 people have been identified in Austria as infected and 750 since the start of the pandemic.

“We are at the beginning of the second wave,” Kurz said, warning that there would soon be more than 1,000 new infections a day in the country. He called on the population to strictly follow the measures to combat the virus and limit their contacts as much as possible. On Friday, the Austrian government announced tougher measures for wearing masks and for gatherings in public places.

Starting tomorrow, the masks, which are already mandatory in supermarkets and transport, must now be used in all points of sale and public buildings. Kurz cautioned that if the number of new infections continues to rise, he does not rule out the introduction of new measures, but expressed hope that a second quarantine would be avoided.

For the third day in a row, the Czech Republic announced a record number in a day of new coronavirus infections, and today it is 1,541, 94 more than yesterday. This is the fifth consecutive day with more than 1,000 new people infected in the country with a population of 10.7 million people. The government has tightened the rules on wearing protective masks, but is trying to avoid strict quarantines.

In the Czech Republic, a total of 35,401 new coronaviruses have been identified since the start of the pandemic, including 453 deaths and 21,209 recoveries. There are currently 13,739 infected in the Czech Republic, including 297 hospitalized, 69 of whom are in serious condition.
