This was stated in an interview with BNR by assistant professor Atanas Mangarov, head of the children’s ward of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Sofia.

“Face masks are not the way to treat an airborne infection. This is a utopia,” Mangarov said, explaining that the spread of SarS-CoV2 is no different from that of all other coronaviruses, which are responsible for about 15-20 percent of all respiratory infections: runny nose, mucus, cough during the cold months of the year. Therefore, according to him, the use of a mask does not contribute significantly to the non-spread of this particular virus and of all respiratory viruses.
