If the fragile trend to limit the incidence of the coronavirus continues, liberalization of the measures is possible, although not 100%. This was emphasized by the Head of State Health Inspectors, Prof. Angel Kunchev from BTV.

He explained the steps to be taken in the next mass immunization of the population. He also pointed out the goal: more than 60% vaccinated to stop the epidemic.

Adjunct Professor Kunchev admitted that he doubts that Bulgaria is among the “excellent” in terms of immunization, but stressed that the state will do everything in its power to convince the people that this is the only way to defeat the coronavirus.

Vaccination, in my opinion, will start in early 2021, since, according to the latest data, the European Medicines Agency will give its assessment on December 29 for the first vaccine from Pfizer and Biontech. On this basis, the European Commission is likely to issue an EU permit within 2-3 days. This is the starting point for all of Europe to start the real vaccination and have all the necessary data and documents, because until now we do not have a vaccine approved for use by European countries and, consequently, we do not have the summary of the necessary product characteristics and leaflet. added.

Of the total number of vaccines for which contracts have been concluded, Bulgaria will receive a proportionate share based on its population, which is 1.55% of all doses. In this way, we will provide practically more than 12 million doses, which under the two-dose immunization regimen would cover the entire population. It is difficult to say whether this will be necessary at this stage, most likely not 100%, as such a high coverage rate is difficult to achieve and will be rescheduled over time, explained Adjunct Professor Kunchev.
