Armenian authorities have declared martial law and general mobilization due to another escalation of tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh, world agencies reported.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called on the country’s population to be ready to defend the holy homeland. Earlier, the separatist authorities in Armenia’s separatist Nagorno-Karabakh region imposed martial law and declared a general mobilization of 18-year-old locals.

The Armenian Defense Ministry, which supports the region that has separated from Azerbaijan, announced that two helicopters and three drones were shot down in Azerbaijan. In the early 1990s, a war broke out between Azerbaijan, on the one hand, and Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh separatists, on the other, killing 30,000 people. After the 1992-1994 military conflict, Azerbaijan de facto lost control of the separatist region and surrounding areas. In 2016, the heavy fighting almost turned into a new war for Nagorno-Karabakh. Deadly clashes broke out in the border area in July this year.
