Apple has officially presented the new iPhone 12 series of smartphones and, as we expected, all models support working with 5G networks. The devices come with a revamped design, which isn’t surprising either: it’s based on a flat metal frame rather than the rounded one on previous models and looks like the iPad Pro and iPad Air as well as the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 12 provides a 6.2 “screen like the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR, but the company says it has reduced the side bezels, which is likely related to the transition to the OLED panel, which was previously reserved for more expensive models. The panel has a maximum brightness of 1200 nits and supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and HLG, protected by glass with added ceramic for a resistance to drops up to 4 times better.
The device will be available in 5 colors and includes the new A14 Bionic processor, which is manufactured in a 5nm process and provides higher performance with lower power consumption. The company claims that it is up to 50% faster than chipsets used in Android phones. The presentation of the graphics accelerator is similar, which the company also claims that there is no faster on a mobile device.
The device’s main camera is dual with a 12MP main sensor, which has an aperture of f / 1.6 for better photos in the dark, and the company has also used a 7-element lens for more detailed shots. A wireless image stabilization system has been added and there are more enhancements in computational photography to increase details and expand dynamic range.
A 12MP ultra-wide camera has also been added. Also, the front camera has the ability to shoot at night. The device has an improved wireless charging system, which the company calls MagSafe – it includes magnets for precise positioning on chargers and is also used to fix cases and other accessories.
Apple also introduced a smaller smartphone called the iPhone 12 mini. The device provides a 5.4 “screen, which gives the company reason to claim that it is the smallest, lightest and thinnest 5G smartphone in the world. The smartphone again uses the A14 Bionic chipset and offers practically everything, from the iPhone 12 in a more compact form. We expected the company to remove the charger and headphones from the set of devices. Pricing for both models will start at $ 699 and $ 799 respectively for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 It will go on sale starting October 23, and the iPhone 12 mini will be in stores on October 13. Pre-orders begin on October 16 and November 6, respectively.
The best models in the series are called iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Both have the same design with a flat side frame (now steel instead of aluminum) and support 5G, but offer improved cameras, their screens are 6.1 “and 6.7” and they also have ceramic glass for added strength. Both models will be available in 4 colors: gray, silver, gold and blue. The devices again use the A14 Bionic chipset, which has a 6-core processor and a quad-core graphics accelerator.
Both phones support 5G and can operate with sub-6GHz and mmWave frequency bands for maximum performance. Another novelty is the addition of a LIDAR sensor to the main camera to accelerate focusing in low light conditions and for augmented reality use. The sensor also allows you to take night portraits.
The devices again offer triple main cameras with 12MP sensors. The iPhone 12 Pro’s main sensor now has an f / 1.6 aperture for 27% improved light sensitivity, and the telephoto camera (f / 2.0) provides a 4x (52mm) combined optical zoom. The ultra-wide-angle camera has an f / 2.4 aperture and a 120-degree field of view.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max’s camera is even better because there is more space on the body for the photo system. The main sensor is again 12MP with an aperture of f / 1.6, but it is 47% larger and offers pixels with a size of 1.7 micrometers. All this, according to the company, increases the sensitivity to light by 87%. Plus there’s a new optical stabilization system that, like DSLR cameras, moves the sensor for even better motion compensation. The telephoto camera has a 65mm lens for a combined 5x optical zoom.
Both phones will also support the Apple ProRAW feature, which will provide access to the benefits of technologies such as Deep Fusion and Smart HDR, while also offering the editing capabilities that RAW capture offers. It will be available for all four cameras. The devices can record HDR video, including in Dolby Vision, and will also support editing of such video.
The phones also include support for the new MagSafe system for wireless charging and connecting other accessories and will not be sold complete with traditional headsets and chargers. However, there will be a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box. The smartphones will be available with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of memory priced at $ 999 and $ 1099. Sales of the iPhone 12 Pro will begin on October 23 and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be in stores beginning on November 13. Pre-orders begin on October 16 and November 6, respectively.
