New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is concerned about the spread of inflammation among children. The disease is believed to be related to the coronavirus.
Inflammation causes severe damage
In New York, 38 cases of this inflammatory syndrome have already been identified, and in 9 more children the diagnosis has not been confirmed, Bill de Blasio said. According to him, sick children have a violent reaction of the immune system, which causes severe damage to many organs.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke about the same inflammation and said a total of 85 cases were being investigated. Cuomo claims that three children likely died as a result of the disease, one of whom is only five years old. All three children had no previous illnesses.
The symptoms of the inflammatory syndrome are similar to “Kawasaki disease”: inflammation of the arteries with high fever and often with skin rashes. In this case, infectious toxic shock is added to these symptoms.
Other countries have reported similar cases.
Some of the affected children were screened for coronaviruses. 47% were infected and 81% had antibodies against KOVID-19 in their bodies.
Similar symptoms and similar test results in children have already been reported in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, and other European countries.
