The sea of Kamchia almost took Hristo and his cousin
When Ani and Hristo from Sofia go on a family vacation to the Kamchia resort, they have no idea how it will change their lives forever. On August 25 last year, the family, together with their relatives, went to the beach by the sea in the town of Varna. The flag is yellow, everyone enters the fresh sea together, they enjoy it at will, and then they start to go out one by one. Annie’s wife, Hristo, remains in the water, trying to persuade her 17-year-old cousin to come out.
Suddenly the two of them fall into a sudden dead emotion, which quickly begins to push them in, Hristo screams for help, and a deadly battle with the elements begins.
The horror began, says Annie. The first to jump was the Stilian Beach lifeguard, whom we had been looking for a long time to thank. Many of the bathers also came. The next few minutes seemed like hours, Annie would say later. The sea rapidly drags the men deep, their heads are no longer visible from the shore, the fight is uneven and lasts about twenty minutes. Finally when she sees the two men being pulled from the clutches of the sea, Ani runs towards them, her cousin is unconscious, Hristo is slowly coming back to life.
There are vicissitudes with ambulances and hospitals and in the end the drama ends with a happy ending: everyone is alive and well.
After the passions subside, Ani and Hristo return to Sofia, they start looking for the “main” savior, the one on the beach, to thank him.
For three months they tried to contact the rescue service, to tell what position they were in, until finally Ani wrote on social networks and groups related to Varna. Many respond to the publication, the witnesses remember the incident of the summer, they meet many eyewitnesses, some of whom recognize Stilian, the lifeguard on the beach, who fearlessly threw himself into the sea and saved the two young men from the insidious dead stream.
Annie and her family finally managed to contact him personally and thank him for saving lives.
“This is my job,” the rescuer modestly replied during their conversation.
