“People are beginning to feel unhappy with what is happening. Their patience is running out. They are beginning to want their lives, friends and relatives back,” Health Minister Prof. Kostadin Angelov said at a briefing today.

“I am not angry and insulting to all qualifiers. I am sure that in a very short time my biggest critics will approach with gratitude what we have done so far,” Angelov added.

“Despite the low level of stringency of the measures, Bulgaria manages to maintain extremely low levels of morbidity compared to other countries in the European Union. This shows that we are handling the pandemic well.”

Angelov reported an improvement in the epidemiological situation in the country, as the number of new cases of coronavirus infection in the last two weeks per 100,000 people has decreased for the first time since the beginning of the year below 100.

Massive antigen testing of teachers is already underway in the country. So far, 3,726 non-teaching staff members have been tested and 11 have tested positive for coronavirus. 12,232 teachers were also tested, of whom 26 tested positive for COVID-19.

Big drop in new covid-19 cases in Bulgaria, dead

The Chief Health Inspector, Prof. Angel Kunchev, reported that Bulgaria, Greece and Finland are the only EU countries that are currently not in the red zone in terms of the spread of coronavirus infection.

“The morbidity map of Europe is all in red with 4 exceptions: Bulgaria, Greece, Norway and Finland, in addition to Iceland. There are three exceptions in dark red: Ireland, Portugal and the Czech Republic, where the incidence is more than 1000 for 100,000, “Kunchev said.

“Since the beginning of the week, the average morbidity in Bulgaria is 90 per 100 thousand people. According to this indicator, our country is ranked 27 in Europe and sixth in the Balkans. The mortality rate reached 11.5 for 100 thousand, which is the 11th place in the EU, “Kunchev said.

“The landscape in the country has changed significantly. Of all the reds, now only 3 districts: Vratsa, Kyustendil and Pleven, remain in the red zone. 19 districts are in orange and, for the first time, 6 districts: Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo , Montana, Razgrad, Smolyan and Targovishte are in the group in yellow with 20 to 60 new cases of coronavirus infection per 100,000 inhabitants. The lowest incidence is in Targovishte – 38 per 100,000, and the highest is in Kyustendil – 154 per 100,000.

How people outside the priority groups will be vaccinated

“We support the order of the Minister of Health with the deadlines to make the measures more flexible,” said the president of the National Operations General Staff, Major General Ventsislav Mutafchiiski.

He said that according to the methodology of the University of Texas, the most dangerous places for the spread of covid-19 infection are schools, kindergartens, sporting events, large shopping centers, restaurants and bars.

“We have never claimed that all conflict sites can be detained for visits,” Mutafchiiski said. “Now hospitals are not full of covid patients, but patients who have postponed planned operations. For students, the Minister of Education was very clear: Primary classes have no chance for quality online education. Going to school was a measured risk to be taken. Everyone else had to sacrifice something else so that our children could learn. “
