The scientist does not expect a second wave in our country due to the return of children to school
This is just the first stage of the vaccine: showing that it elicits an immune response. But that doesn’t mean it works. Thus, Assistant Professor Andrey Chorbanov from the Institute of Microbiology of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences commented on the data on the Russian vaccine published in world scientific publications.
It has no direct side effects, he said.
However, the most important thing about the vaccine at this stage is that it is not clear whether it protects against disease. It’s only clear that it elicits an immune response, she told BTV.
In a year and a half there will be a medical and biological reason to administer these vaccines, which are now being developed around the world. Before this period, any decision is political, which is why not the scientists who develop them, but the manufacturers and politicians to talk about the future vaccine, said the associate professor.
The situation in Bulgaria at the moment is not worrying, believes Chorbanov. The positives do not mean anything, the question is the number of patients and it is small. What you have to look at is the number of seriously ill patients, insisted the BAS man. Mortality is also an indicator, but he attributed it to the fact that the virus in our country has begun to infect nursing homes.
The scientist does not expect a second wave in our country due to the return of children to school.
For the moment, children and these vulnerable elderly relatives mix, he said. According to him, a new lock at home is unnecessary and people would not allow it. This is not Ebola, after all, it is not what Armageddon will be for the world, he said.
