On November 16, 2020, during a specialized operation by the CDCOC and the Special Prosecutor’s Office, a criminal group organized for usury and extortion, operating in the city of Varna, was neutralized, announced the press center of the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
Four people were arrested. According to the evidence gathered thus far, the group operated from the beginning of 2017 until its arrest.
The loans were made to low-income citizens with low social status and especially to people who gambled in casinos, with interest rates of around 20-30% being imposed on them.
During the raids during the specialized operation in the city of Varna, material evidence related to the subject of the pre-trial process, including money, was seized.
The prosecutor supervising the case will press charges against the detainees later today. On November 18, 2020, a request will be submitted to the Specialized Criminal Court to impose a measure of coercion “Detention in custody.”
Work continues on the pre-trial process with witness questioning and other investigative actions.
