Drinking alcohol during the coronavirus vaccination period can dramatically reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine, narcologist Alexei Kazantsev said. Drinking alcohol during vaccination also increases the risk of an allergic reaction to the vaccine, he said.
“This can lead to anaphylactic shock and even death. Immunity can be lowered with minimal alcohol consumption,” said Kazantsev.
The doctor also warned of an “emergency reaction” that would worsen the condition of those vaccinated.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova said that immunity is formed within 42 days after the vaccine and during this period alcohol intake should be limited. Medical authorities have urged Russians not to drink alcohol for two weeks before vaccination.
According to Alexander Ginsburg, the leader of the team that developed the Sputnik V vaccine at the Gamaleya Center, those vaccinated can afford a glass of champagne or white wine every day.
