Germany, which holds the rotating EU presidency, is convening an emergency EU meeting today on a new strain of the coronavirus found in Britain, the DPA reported.
Berlin is activating the EU’s integrated mechanism for political response to crises, said German presidential spokesman Sebastian Fischer, BNR reported. The control of travel to and from European countries is the responsibility of national governments, but the European Commission can coordinate, facilitate the exchange of information and make recommendations, notes the DPA.
The new strain of COVID-19 was found in a patient in Italy, the Italian Ministry of Health announced. The patient returned days ago from Great Britain with a flight to the Fiumicino airport in Rome and is currently in isolation. According to the World Health Organization, the new version of the coronavirus has also been found in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia.
If you arrive in Greece from the UK, a 7-day quarantine will apply. For those arriving from other countries in Greece, the mandatory quarantine is three days. Starting today, Serbia will enter with only a negative PCR test for coronavirus, and for citizens who do not have one, isolation will be provided for ten days.
