Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that all Russian vaccines against COVID-19 are effective, adding that the country will soon register a third vaccine against the virus, Reuters reported, citing Russian agencies RIA Novosti and TASS.
Russia is currently providing its Sputnik V vaccine for internal use, even though testing in the last phase has yet to be completed, BTA reported.
Today it was announced that the efficiency of the “Sputnik V” exceeds 90 percent. Previously, vaccine developers Pfizer and BioNTech said the same thing about their experimental vaccine.
There are already two registered vaccines. All studies have shown and confirmed that, firstly, these vaccines are safe and have no serious side effects after use, and secondly, they are effective, Putin said by video conference at a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. (OCS).
The effectiveness of the Russian vaccine is based on human vaccination data, not ongoing trials, according to Reuters.
Putin added that Moscow was ready to cooperate on coronavirus vaccines and agreed with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan that vaccination should be accessible to everyone.
Russia reported 20,977 new cases and 368 deaths today.
In terms of the total number of confirmed cases, 1,817,109, the country ranks fifth in the world, after the United States, India, Brazil and France.
