The Saudi-led military coalition, which is fighting the Iran-backed Hutus, launched airstrikes on its military targets in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and other regions, after the group increased the use of armed drones against Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported.
The coalition, which said it had destroyed 10 armed drones, told Saudi state media that “civilian and civilian targets in the kingdom are a red line.”
The coalition did not name specific sites. The US consulate in Saudi Arabia in the city of Jeddah has warned Americans not to travel to the area, citing reports of suspected attacks and explosions on Sunday near Jeddah and the southern city of Khamis Mushait, “Focus” added.
In the Hutu-controlled Yemeni capital Sanaa, a Reuters witness reported several airstrikes. Clouds of black smoke rise near a military installation near the University of Sanaa. Hutti-run Al Massirah television said coalition military planes were bombing the Al-Nahda and Atan neighborhoods.
The Hutus, who have been fighting the coalition since it intervened in Yemen’s civil war in March 2015, recently stepped up cross-border missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.
