Bulgarian National Television (BNT) broadcasts a new program on religion, “Religion Today”, which will be broadcast every Saturday from 4 pm The presenter will be journalist Georgi Milkov, the television announced.
The program will be broadcast on the “Faith and Society” site. A few days ago, its host Goran Blagoev announced that he had been called by the television management and informed that the show had been taken off the air. The party’s affiliation with Blagoev, who became a member of Tsvetan Tsvetanov’s recently established Republican Party for Bulgaria, was cited as the reason for the suspension.
There has been tension between Blagoev and the CEO of BNT since the beginning of the summer, when reruns of “Faith and Society” came off summer television programming. Blagoev then hinted that the show itself would be taken off the air in the fall. “Faith and Society” has been around for 15 years, but the BOC leadership has had strained relations with Blagoev for a long time, and since 2014 clergymen have not participated in the show. In the summer, the synod issued a statement in favor of BNT director Emil Koshlukov. The case generated protests in defense and against the broadcast, a reaction from a journalistic organization and a hearing of the CEO of BNT by the Electronic Media Council (CEM).
BNT clarifies that “Religion Today” will be educational in nature and will familiarize viewers with the history and interaction of the most widespread religions in Bulgaria.
The main place in it will be conversations with representatives of the BOC, because in our country “Orthodoxy is represented by the Bulgarian Orthodox Church”. “Along with this, there will be topics on other religions and Christian denominations practiced in Bulgaria: Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, Judaism,” BNT writes. The country’s regional television centers will implement the rubric “Under the same sky”, which will present the different religious denominations.
“In recent months, our team has been working to validate the shows in the fall season. Our efforts are aimed at improving the quality of BNT productions while respecting the principle of independence and impartiality. Shows on education, religion and history they definitely have their place in the public air. “That is why we invited a professional like Georgi Milkov, who has a deep interest in religions and traditions. We believe that his experience and charismatic personality will help him succeed, “said Ivaylo Ognyanov, BNT1’s program director. Milkov was already on public television in 2015-2018 when he hosted the program” Plus this. “
