The repairs of the Rebarkovo – Lyutibrod – Zverino – Elysee section on the second class road II-16 have started, the Road Infrastructure Agency announced this afternoon.
Until December 12, all heavy traffic passing from Vidin, Montana and Vratsa to Sofia and back was on the route through the Iskar Gorge, due to the modernization of the section of the E-79 between Rebarkovo and Lutidol . For five days, traffic has been restored on the E-79 route for all vehicles and this allows to start repairing the second class II-16 road section on the territory of the Vratsa district, the announcement indicates.
It comes hours after a protest by citizens of Rebarkovo, broadcast this morning in a BTV report.
“I travel every morning, the road has become impossible to cross, holes have been opened, the tires break every minute, the rims break. I personally accept this as a threat to my life,” one of protesters. “Let the main Pumpkin come to repair his way (…). Where is Mr. Casket? To come, there are culprits here”, he resented. The appointment also circulated in other media.
The head of the road administration in Vratsa commented in the same report that the reason for the poor condition of the road is the 500 thousand trucks that passed through the section in six months. According to him, the repair is valuable and 240,000 BGN has been set aside to carry out. He added that the start of repair work depends on the weather and did not specify a specific date or at least a month.
Hours after the report, the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office (VAP) was active in the case. It has established that “it is a republican path” and the RIA has the authority to manage it.
Recognizing that “such violations have a nature that directly affects the lives, health and property of citizens,” the prosecution has approached the head of the agency’s board of directors to ensure safe and comfortable traffic.
Less than an hour later, RIA announced that repairs were beginning. The road maintenance company in charge of the national highways in the district has been ordered to work in a mobilized manner to be able to take advantage of the current weather conditions and improve the operational condition of the route in a short time, the highway agency reports.
