The Specialized Criminal Court of Appeals (ASC) released former Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Krassimir Zhivkov just for the New Year.
The defendant in the Atanas and Plamen Bobokovi brothers’ garbage matter was released on a bond of BGN 100,000, as the previous court had previously determined it to be BGN 20,000. However, the ASNS deemed it too small and increased it.
The same occurs with the last one who was arrested for hazardous waste, which according to the Prosecutor’s Office was illegally buried in our country – Pleven’s businessman Nikolay Mihovski. He was also released, but for BGN 200,000, after the bail that was first imposed on him was BGN 100,000, but it was also increased.
The ruling is final and is not subject to appeal.
Krassimir Zhivkov has been detained since the end of May and was released seven months later. He is accused of being part of an organized criminal group together with the former head of the eco-inspection in Pleven Gabriel Savov and businessmen Nikolay Mihovski and Aygun Eminov. The Prosecutor’s Office alleges that the company “Monbat” imported hazardous waste, which after processing was not delivered for destruction and storage to companies that have a license and technological capacity to do so. Thus, the criminal group had a severe impact on the environment. According to the investigation, Zhivkov is at the heart of the waste plan. He controlled hollow companies to which the Bobokovs sold waste rather than exporting it abroad.
Plamen Bobokov himself is free for one million BGN, but today the prosecution brought a new indictment against him in court. And his brother Atanas was released for a record 2 million BGN.
