A woman with a rare anomaly gave birth to her first child at the Home of the Mother, an exclusive case of medical practice not only in Bulgaria but also in the world.

The struggle of both the doctors and the young mother in her attempts to conceive has lasted for more than 2 years. And the reason: a rare disease. The woman has 2 uteri, 2 cervix, a missing kidney and cancer. However, yesterday she managed to give birth to a healthy baby.

Two and a half years ago, the 23-year-old realized that she had a rare congenital disease that reduced her chances of becoming a mother.

“The examination revealed that there was a tumor, initially, on the cervix. On this occasion, there should be a surgical intervention to remove the genitals,” explained Associate Professor Bozhidar Slavchev, head of the Department of Gynecology, “Home of the Mother” .

A fight begins, for health and for the opportunity to hug her own child. Doctors see an opportunity only in a complex and rarely performed operation, which will save the uterus, but also remove the tumor.

“My wife had a lucky star. She has a very strong attitude towards pregnancy and delivery. A good example of very good synergy and symbiosis between doctor and patient,” said Professor Ivan Kostov.

At the beginning of the year, a miracle happens and she gives birth to her first child.

“She spent most of her pregnancy here. The child is also very well. He is developing very well,” said Dr. Natalia Petrakieva, attending physician.

“So when there is a great desire on both sides for things to happen, then fate helps,” added Professor Ivan Kostov, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Casa de la Madre.

Doctors do not rule out another pregnancy for the patient.

Both mother and baby are in good condition. They are expected to be discharged in a few days.
