Doug Ford, the prime minister of Ontario, Canada’s most populous province, said he accepted Phillips’ resignation hours after returning from a two-week stay on the island of St. Barts.
Phillips left despite government orders that people refrain from unnecessary travel.
Traveling on vacation was the wrong decision, and once again I sincerely apologize, Phillips said in a statement confirming his resignation.
In a video posted on Christmas Eve, the Ontario Finance Minister wore a thick sweater and sipped an eggnog next to a lit fireplace, a small Christmas tree and a sugar house.
