Hurricane force winds in northern Italy toppled a tree during a storm that fell on a tent and killed two children, AP reported.

The children, sisters aged 3 and 14, died in hospital, the family’s third child was slightly injured, the parents were unharmed, Italian media reported. Most of the people who were in the camp near Marina di Massa, a coastal town in the Tuscany region, abandoned it after authorities warned yesterday that there would be a severe storm.

Winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour blew across Italy on Saturday night versus Sunday, bTV reported. Near Palermo, on the island of Sicily, the wind caused a deliberate fire. Last night the fire forced 1,700 people to flee their home in the town of Altofonte. Sicilian Governor Nelo Muzumechi said the fire, which is still continuing, was deliberately set in six locations.
