The people of Nagorno-Karabakh set their houses on fire before leaving
The former head of the Armenian National Security Service has been arrested for participating in an attempted coup and assassination of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Cases of illegal acquisition and storage of weapons, ammunition and explosives by a group of people in order to seize power in Armenia have been revealed. The conspirators did not agree with the internal and external policies of the state and wanted to seize power by assassinating the prime minister, the National Security Service said in a statement. The weapons were transferred to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh, where fighting has been fought since September 27.
In connection with this, on the basis of direct suspicions, the former head of the country’s National Security Service and the leader of the opposition party “Irenik” were arrested. (“Family” – br) Artur Vanesyan, former MP Vagram Baghdasaryan and 2 other people.
Irenik, along with 16 other political forces, has held rallies and protests for several days. They demand the resignation of Pashinyan, accusing him of treason against Nagorno-Karabakh. On November 9, Vladimir Putin, Alham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration calling for a total cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Armenian forces are expected to start withdrawing soon from the Kalbajar city area, part of which is under Azerbaijani control under a new peace agreement. The inhabitants of the towns of this region chose to set fire to their houses to avoid falling into the hands of the enemy.
Armenia says that more than 2,300 soldiers have died during the six-week war with Azerbaijan. This is a large increase compared to previous information from the Armenian side, which announced around 1000 dead soldiers. Baku has yet to release information about the dead Azeri soldiers.
On Friday, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said the death toll was more than 4,000 and some 8,000 were injured. At least 143 civilian casualties have been confirmed.
