A British nurse has been arrested for the third time on suspicion of the murder of eight babies and an attempted murder of nine others in a neonatal ward, reports the Daily Mail. The arrested Lucy Letby worked at Countess Chester hospital in Cheshire, northwest England. The nurse’s home was searched in connection with the new investigation.

She was detained in 2018 and 2019 by the police investigating newborn deaths at the health center between 2015 and 2016.

In her first arrest, the 30-year-old woman was questioned about the murder of 8 babies and the attempted murder of another 6. Police are currently investigating her alleged attempt to cause the death of three other newborns at Chester Hospital. . Thus, the total number of victims reached 17. Letby is also a suspect in another 16 cases of assault on newborns, which fortunately were not fatal.

In an interview with a local newspaper, the nurse said that caring for the babies in the ward required different levels of competence. She began an internship in the ward as a student at the University of Chester School of Nursing, graduating in 2011. She was later employed by the hospital.
