The Manchester United team started the new season in the Premier League in a nightmarish way. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team suffered a 1: 3 home loss to Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils got an extra break to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League, but they were unimpressed with their performance and naturally lost to the Eagles.

Andros Townsend opened in the seventh minute after an assist from Jeffrey Schloop. The hosts lacked sharpness and dynamism in the action and made a change at halftime: Daniel James was replaced by Mason Greenwood. United’s young talent had a good chance to equalize, but he misfired his head. This was one of the few dangers on Vicente Guaita’s door throughout the game.

In the 74th minute came the most controversial moment of the match. Referee Martin Atkinson awarded Palace a penalty after VAR intervened after Victor Lindelof played a hand in the penalty area following a shot from Andre Ayu. The referee’s decision was spot on, and Ayu did not shoot convincingly from the penalty spot and his shot was deflected by David De Gea. However, Atkinson ordered the execution to be beaten after it turned out that United’s Spanish guard had drifted slightly off his goal line prior to Ayu’s kick, something that is prohibited under the new rules.

Behind the ball was Wilfred Zaha, who left De Gea no chances. Shortly after, the hosts returned to the game after a goal by substitute Donny van de Beek, the new purchase of Ole Gunnar Solskyar and company. In the end, however, Zaha was back in the arms of his teammates after a new error by Lindelof, which was simply deflected on the wing, and the subsequent kick with the right foot surpassed De Gea and United for the third time.

Thus, Palace started for the first time in its history with two consecutive victories in the highest echelon of England. Zaha became the first player to score two goals against his former team while visiting the Premier League. The Londoners have a total of six points and share the top with Everton, who have the most goals scored. In the next round, the two teams will face Selhurst Park, while United will seek revenge for the Brighton visit.
