The French prosecutor’s office launched an investigation against a lieutenant colonel in the French armed forces on suspicion of passing important information to the Russian secret services. This was announced today by the Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Mrs. Florence Parley, on the air of Radio Europe-1, writes Novini.bg.

I can confirm that a high-ranking officer is being prosecuted on suspicion of transmitting important information or causing damage to security. Now the judiciary must do its job in accordance with the principles of investigative secrecy, Parley added. Only the judiciary will be able to confirm the motives for the officer’s actions and determine what crime he committed, he said, cited by TASS.

According to Radio Europe-1, the officer in question was serving at a military base in Italy. He was detained by the French Directorate General for Internal Security when, at the end of his leave, he was about to return to Italy.
