China has imposed ban on imports of pork from Germany, after the European country confirms first case of African swine fever earlier this weekannounced the Chinese customs authorities, quoted by DPA.
According to the information the prohibition applies directly.
All deliveries of pork, hog or wild boar products will be destroyed or returned, while supplies before the ban will be carefully inspected before being released to the Asian country.
The ban is a severe blow to German pork producers, as they lose one of the the largest markets outside the EU.
Suspension of exports “it’s going to affect us a lot, a lot“, warned Joachim Ruckvid, president of the German Farmers Association.
The German Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed today that it is received notification from the Chinese authorities of the ban. The ministry is negotiating with several non-EU countries for future business opportunities. The aim is to limit the export ban to the affected German regions.
African swine fever, which originates in Africa and has spread to countries in Asia and Europe, is almost it is always fatal to pigs. There is no vaccine or treatment.
