Dyakov became the head of the NSO in March 2018, but in August 2019 he left the service “for personal reasons”. Unofficially, it was alleged that among the reasons for the resignation of the head of the state guard, there were contradictions with the presidential family and

especially the difficulties

around the safety of

The First Lady

Desislava Radeva

Gen. Dyakov’s career path began in the Bulgarian Army as a general staff officer of a motorized rifle regiment in Simeonovgrad. Since 1992 he has been an officer of the Military Police, reaching the position of director of the service in the period 2009-2013.

Following his training at the Georgi S. Rakovski Military Academy and the George Marshall European Security Center, Dyakov became Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Cooperation at NATO’s Joint Forces Command in the Netherlands.

Later, Dyakov became an adviser on military affairs to President Rosen Plevneliev, and he remained so with Rumen Radev, who appointed him head of the NSO.

Dyakov is another member of the NSO, joining the leadership of the Defense Office under Prosecutor №1. The head of the bureau is Rosen Todorov, who at different periods was deputy director and head of the state guard. The prosecutor’s office declined to comment on Dyakov’s appointment to the Defense Office.

2020 turned out to be very turbulent for NSOs. In May, prosecutors revealed that a service lieutenant colonel had played a key role in preparing the murder of businesswoman Stanka Marangozova.

The officer’s participation in

murder was reported

as reason

by Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev to resign from the services of the NSO, since the security of the prosecutor №1 was assumed by employees of the Protection Office, whose powers, in addition to guarding witnesses in danger in cases against organized crime , include the protection of magistrates.

It is unofficially known that apart from Geshev

The Defense Office

guards and various

special prosecutors

Its employees also participate in various actions against organized crime.

After a series of scandals involving NSO state guards, President Rumen Radev was forced to separate from another chief of staff in the summer, whom he appointed by decree. The place of gen. Krassimir Stanchev was taken over by Emil Tonev, who until then was deputy director of the NGO.

And just a few days ago it became clear that military prosecutors will investigate state guards in connection with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov’s security omissions. During the investigation of the photos and video published in the media from the apartment used by the Prime Minister, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office established data on the crimes of NSO employees and the materials were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Military District.
