Shortly after 11pm last night, a signal was received at the Third Regional Hospital in Plovdiv that car windows were being broken along the riverside boulevard of the Maritsa River to commit a robbery.

Two police patrols were dispatched to the scene and found two men at the time of the robbery. The uniformed officers detained a 16-year-old while smashing the side windows of a parked car, and his accomplice, a 26-year-old man, tried to escape. A race followed and, to avoid arrest, the man jumped into the Maritsa River to swim across it.

He fell into a deep part of it and began to drown, but the intervention of the police prevented the fatal outcome. The young man was taken from the river bed and taken into police custody. From the inspection of the cars, it was found that they broke the side windows of 4 vehicles with the brands: Kia, Volkswagen Carp, Audi and Renault. The car’s batteries had dismantled terminals ready to be removed.

The detainee is from the town of Stara Zagora in Galabovo and is an old acquaintance of the police. A reference in the archives of the Ministry of the Interior shows that there are 10 criminal records for robberies. The 16-year-old is from Plovdiv, but at the moment there are no other criminal acts.

The criminalists of the district administration continue their work of documenting the crime in the course of the pre-trial process initiated.
