A 30-year-old Bulgarian was brought to justice in England for arson in which a British policeman was seriously injured and another was threatened. Blagovest Hadjigeorgiev confronted police on the morning of September 11 in the picturesque town of Newquay on the Atlantic coast. The police were called after the bailiffs found it difficult to evict private property due to the aggressive behavior of the Bulgarian.

Details of the incident have not been announced, as the actual trial will begin on October 13. On Saturday, Hadjigeorgiev was summoned to court only to confirm his identity and hear the charges against him.

During the hearing, it was clear that he did not have a permanent address in the UK, but his connection to the property the bailiffs were attempting to evict was not disclosed.

The Bulgarian will have to answer for causing serious bodily injury to a police officer, attempting to endanger the life of another, and arson.

Darrell Myers, 51, was seriously injured in the fire. The burns on his body were so severe that an air ambulance had to be called to take him to two hospitals. Myers’ colleagues describe him as a very popular officer who has worked for the police for 18 years and was previously in the military. Dozens of messages appeared on Twitter in support of him.

Cornwall County Police Chief Ian Drummond Smith wrote that his condition had stabilized. Now he can get up in the hospital bed and is in a good mood.
