Following its mission to work for greater transport safety, the European Center for Transport Policy (ECTS) has promised to carry out a specific inspection at the site of the accident on April 3, 2020 on the Maritza road with 22 trucks. The incident led to two victims and caused serious material damage.

During the preparations for the inspection, which will take place after the end of the state of emergency due to COVID-19, an attorney representing a relative of the person killed in the accident contacted the ECTD. The lawyer warned that the prosecutor’s office refused to provide him with photos of the scene – on CD or other electronic media, and that a decision (sample, cylinder, core) of the asphalt pavement is still expected.

In response to the signal and in the process of deep clarification of the facts surrounding the accident, the ECtHR found that The Border Police car, which was driving the convoy of a total of 50 trucks, lacked the mandatory civil liability insurance at the time of the accident.. The reference was made on the website of the Guarantee Fund.
