Italian authorities arrested 32-year-old Andrea Renda, who is believed to be the alleged killer of Bulgarian Anelia Dimova in Calabria on the night of August 30. The 55-year-old woman was found murdered at her home in Belvedere Maritima, near Cosenza.
The Italian media quoted local authorities as saying it was murder to steal items of little value. This is how the chief of the Cosenza carabinieri, Pietro Sutera, describes the motives for the crime. Dimova was found with a broken skull and a towel over her face, taped up. The victim did not know her attacker.
The Bulgarian, who has lived in the coastal city for many years, spent the night before the murder with her friends. Thanks to the video images near Anelia’s house, the carabinieri were able to identify the alleged murderer. According to the results of the autopsy, the Bulgarian woman died around 2 in the morning. The camera footage captured local resident Andrea Renda, unemployed and with a clean court record, entering the Bulgarian woman’s home at 2:07 am and leaving at 2:40 pm According to authorities, it was during these 33 minutes that Renda delivered the fatal blows to the victim’s head, most likely with a bottle of whiskey.
After the murder, the man took Anelia’s wedding ring, several chains, her mobile phone and a purse. Renda attempted to sell the stolen item to a gold-buying shop in Belvedere. All of this was filmed by video cameras from the city to the store in question. The carabinieri seized the stolen objects. A test with them showed that they were owned by Anelia. Authorities also seized the alleged killer’s car. During the interrogations, Renda exercised his right not to answer questions from the authorities.
