Former Liverpool forward Michael Robinson died at 61 after losing a long battle with cancer.

“We are saddened to announce Michael’s death,” wrote a Twitter friend on his page.

The former citizen of the Republic of Ireland worked as a soccer analyst in Spain for many years, being diagnosed with metastatic cancer in December 2018.

His work as an analyst made him even more popular and he was one of the most recognized faces in the Spanish soccer broadcast. His broadcast “Inform Robinson” is the most popular for soccer in Spain and one of the most famous and viewed in all of Europe.

Last week, Robinson personally denied false information that he had died, but ironically, it happened today.

With Liverpool, Robinson won the English League, League Cup, and European Cup in 1984, and also played in the FA Cup Final in 1983.

Despite the difficult diagnosis, until recently Robinson continued to work, maintaining his sense of humor and optimism.

“Cancer will kill me one day, but it won’t kill me every day. I realized what was happening and I am optimistic about my life,” the former attacker said last October.

Liverpool also offers its condolences for the disappearance of Irish-born Leicester, who also plays for Preston, Manchester City, Brighton Queens Park Rangers and Osasuna.

Among the great names in the sport that paid tribute was Rafa Nadal, a friend of Robinson’s.
