Russia in crisis! Hospital beds run out

If the current rate of coronavirus infection in Russia continues, some regions may face a shortage of hospital beds after two weeks. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin warned about this.

In the last 24 hours, the number of reported Covid-19 cases in the country has reached more than 68,600.

At today’s Coordinating Council meeting with the government to combat the spread of the coronavirus, Sobyanin said the problem of possible shortages of hospital beds in the regions should be resolved early next week:

“It seems to me that this work should be completed by Monday and the additional beds will be delivered to the regions on Monday, which will be deployed in the next two weeks, because at least one or more clinics are approving the decision. Two weeks.”

Much more optimistic today was the statement by the President of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko. According to her, the rate of spread of the infection is not threatening due to the measures taken, and the situation in the regions is under control.

Matvienko assured that Russia has the necessary financial resources to face the crisis:

“Our financial capabilities make it possible to meet these challenges. They are not exhausted and there is no need to review the budget so far.”

Next week, President Vladimir Putin is expected to decide whether to continue the strict quarantine measures during the upcoming May holidays.

The health ministry recommends that the restrictions remain in place on the grounds that it is expected to reach the peak of disease in Russia right after the holidays.
