Holland left football, the season is still zero and there is no champion

The soccer championship in the Netherlands has officially ended.

The decision is not surprising, as a few days ago the local government banned all sporting events until September 1, making it impossible to play the championship.

The funny thing here is that there will be no champion, and the year will be considered zero.

Prior to completion, 25 of the 34 rounds were played, with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar sharing first place with an equal asset score: 56 each.

The Amsterdam Grand Prix had the advantage of a goal difference, but will not be able to defend last year’s title. The local federation considered that a year zero was the most logical option.

The championship too there will be no dropouts, and next season the 18 teams will be exactly the same.

The loser turns out to be Cambuur’s team, which had an 11-point lead in the second tier of Dutch soccer, but would not achieve its desired promotion to the elite.

However, the European quotas will be established according to the provisional classification.

Ajax and AZ will participate in the Champions League, while Feyenoord, PSV and Willem will play in the Europa League.

The local federation announced that any decision it had made would always be unsatisfied. Therefore, each team must make a decision and start thinking about the new season, which will not start before September.

There was a discussion about relegation, but the clubs did not reach an understanding between them, so the federation decided to keep all the championships in the same way.

The Netherlands is the second country after Belgium to make the bold but seemingly logical decision to end this season.

The difference is that in Belgium the title was awarded to the leader Club Bruges.
