The crossover is missing the “X” in its name, and there will be an electric version.
Opel has a special policy for naming its models. All crossovers have the letter “X” in their name. Cars like the Crossland X and Grandland X are prime examples of this, with the Mokka first introduced in 2012, The “X” was added to the name in 2016 along with its update. Opel has now revealed the first image of the successor disguised as Mokka X, which will again be called Mokka, without the “X”.
According to autoweek.nl, citing Opel representatives, the company is busy testing the new crossover. The manufacturer claims that The Mokka assembly will begin in the last quarter of 2020., and the first copies will be delivered to customers early next year.
The new Mokka divides its chassis with the DS 3 Crossback and the 2008 Peugeot, which means that the new crossover will also be available on the CMF platform, which, among other things, will allow for a fully electric version. Like its French counterparts, this electric variant is likely to receive a 50 kWh battery, which will provide a range of 300 km for the 136 hp version of the electric motor. Undoubtedly, gasoline versions with PureTech engines will also be on the order lists.
Regarding design The new Mokka crossover is based on the GT X Experimental, which Opel showed in 2018. Important elements of this concept, which in a sense go back to the Mokka, are the Opel Compass, the cruciform shape of the front panel and the Opel Vizor, which is more or less a dark “mask” on the front and a panel of narrow headlights. The crossover is expected to be fully declassified a little later this year.
