With COVID-19 restaurants closed for many of us, life has become an endless cycle of trying new recipes at home. Here, during the first year, we find both time and strength and a desire to prepare Kozunaks. And we did well. And we know that we are not the only ones.
But this is something completely different. These are the famous IKEA dumplings! And now we can cook them at home.
Yes, the Swedish home furnishings brand has finally revealed a recipe that made us lick our fingers every time we shop at their stores.

“Do you miss the famous IKEA meatballs? We give you a recipe that allows you to prepare this delicious meal in the comfort of your home,” wrote the official IKEA Twitter account. Hopefully, they have received approval from the Swedish headquarters and will have no trouble sharing the secret.
It turns out that the recipe is pretty easy. To make delicious meatballs, we need:
- 750 g of minced meat: two thirds of beef (500 g) and one third of pork (250 g)
- 1 head of onion finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove (pressed)
- 100 g breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons of whole milk
- salt and pepper to taste.
IKEA recommends that after mixing the minced meat and shaping the small meatballs, leave them in the fridge for about two hours. Then remove, fry first in a pan, then everything in the pan and directly in the oven for about half an hour at 160 degrees.

A new success for the Swedish brand.
Of course, our meatballs would not be Swedish without the special saucewhich is a mixture of:
- 40 g of butter
- a few drops of oil
- 40 g flour
- 150 ml of vegetable broth
- 150 ml beef broth
- 150 ml of high fat sour cream
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard.
The sauce is cooked by first melting the butter with the oil in a pan, then adding the flour, stirring for a minute or two. Add the vegetable and meat broth and continue stirring the mixture. Finally we put the cream, the soy sauce and the Dijon mustard. Let the resulting mixture boil on the stove until the sauce thickens. And we don’t forget to mix it up.
IKEA recommends serving your meatballs with mashed potatoes, mashed or cooked, and a little butter when done. C’mon darling!
