President Rumen Radev will delay the decree announcing a new municipality with the center of Obzor until September. The reason, he said, is an obstacle in the law.

“The proposal that the Council of Ministers sent me contradicts the Census Law, according to which there can be no territorial changes from the preliminary bypass until the end of the census. However, the Council of Ministers proposed to issue a decree,” the Chief de Estado told reporters today when asked when he will issue the decree.

Radev added that the issuance of such a decree is possible in September at the earliest, when the census of the population and the housing stock is scheduled. commented on the issue after voting in the parliamentary elections.

Residents of Obzor and six neighboring towns voted in a referendum in late February to secede from the Nessebar municipality, and the government approved the creation of the new municipality on March 24. The inhabitants of some of the villages that remain in the minority want a new vote because they believe that it is more convenient for them to be served by the municipality of Nessebar.
